ACCCN Webinar on Demand 'End-of-life decision-making in ICU and the Law'

This webinar recording is presented by Jayne Hewitt who is an experienced Critical Care Nurse and senior Research Fellow (Griffith University and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital. The webinar will highlight those instances where law and healthcare decision-making intersect.

Most treatment decisions in ICU are aimed at optimising life and health, but there are times when decisions about treatment limits, and withdrawing life-sustaining measures are needed. These decisions are underpinned by law, but what the law requires and how it affects decision-making may not be clear.

The law's role in resolving conflicts of values, decisions about non-beneficial treatment and its protective role will be covered. Findings of recent research exploring the role of law in end-of-life decision-making in ICU will also be discussed.
