Course Overview:
ACCCN offers this two-day Instructor Program for healthcare professionals who teach Advanced Life Support (ALS) and have existing ALS certification. The focus is to develop skills and understanding around resuscitation education. Time is spent developing and practising instructor skills, including teaching simulations and ALS assessments. Participants always comment what a great networking opportunity this program is, particularly to share challenges and solutions around ALS/BLS delivery.
This course also includes an ALS recertification in either adults or paediatrics, based on the current ANZCOR guidelines.
Program content includes:
- Content delivery
- Simulation scenario development and implementation
- Debriefing as a learning tool
- Conducting assessments
- Providing feedback
- Opportunity for resuscitation educators to network with their peers
- ALS recertification
Each participant is provided with an Instructor reference manual (including self-directed exercises and practical tips) and an e-copy of our Adult or Paediatric ALS manual upon paid registration.
Nursing staff may claim up to 16 CPD hours (based on 12 hours program contact and four hours self-directed learning).
Medical staff may be accredited a different allocation of hours based on the accreditation with their medical college CPD home.
Successful participants will be placed on the ACCCN National ALS Database.
Pre-course requirements:
“Instructor certification candidates must have a current ALS or PALS certification (completed within the last 12 months) in order to complete the Instructor Course (and gain recertification in their ALS or PALS qualification). Any registrant who attends a course without a current ALS or PALS certification will not be eligible to complete the Instructor Course and will not be issued a refund. For those who have a recently expired ALS or PALS certificate (completed with the last 12-18months) please contact the ACCCN to discuss any leniency in this rule based on special circumstances, prior to registering for this course”.
Attendees can test their knowledge by completing the electronic pre-test quiz prior to the day. Details on how to access the ALS program manuals and pre-test quiz will be emailed on receipt of paid online registration.
