Trauma care doesn’t end when the immediate crisis is over.

Trauma in Critical Care: Beyond the Impact will explore the latest evidence, challenges and innovations shaping trauma care for critical care nurses, with a focus on what happens beyond the initial presentation.

Designed for nurses working across emergency and intensive care, this half-day symposium will examine the complexities of trauma from multiple perspectives, including adult and paediatric trauma, aeromedical and defence environments, burns care, complications, psychological impact and evolving best-practice management.

Through expert-led presentations and an interactive mass casualty incident discussion, delegates will explore practical approaches to assessment, clinical decision-making and ongoing management across the trauma journey, from impact through to recovery.

The program is designed to be engaging, clinically relevant and grounded in real-world practice, equipping nurses with practical, high-impact strategies to support better outcomes for critically injured patients.

 

From impact to recovery: explore trauma from multiple perspectives

Trauma presents differently in every environment. A metropolitan emergency department faces different challenges to an aeromedical retrieval team. Paediatric trauma brings different considerations to adult trauma. Burns require specialist approaches, while mass casualty incidents demand rapid decision-making at both a patient and system level.

This symposium is designed to bring those perspectives together.

The planned program will feature specialist healthcare professionals across adult trauma, paediatric trauma, aeromedical care, defence and burns, providing delegates with an opportunity to examine trauma management across a diverse range of high-acuity settings.

The day will culminate in a facilitated mass casualty incident panel discussion, taking the conversation beyond traditional presentations and into the realities of complex trauma response.

More than a day of presentations

Expect an engaging program combining expert clinical presentations, real-world perspectives and interactive discussion.

Specialist healthcare professionals will share their experience from across defence, aeromedical, adult trauma, paediatric trauma and burns nursing, before coming together for a facilitated panel discussion based around a mass casualty incident scenario.

Delegates will be invited to think through the clinical and logistical complexities alongside experienced practitioners, exploring how priorities change when resources, patient numbers and circumstances place extraordinary pressure on critical care systems.

Dedicated networking opportunities throughout the day will also provide time to connect with peers, exchange experiences and strengthen relationships within the critical care community.
