Priority Setting Partnership – Communication and swallowing difficulties in critical illness prioritisation survey

We are partnering with the James Lind Alliance (JLA) to identify the top research priorities about communication and swallowing difficulties in critical illness.

We want your help to short-list questions that you would like future research to answer about communication and/or swallowing difficulty during or following critical illness.

What have we done so far?
We asked people to submit questions about critical illness communication and swallowing difficulties for future research. We had over 1300 questions submitted! We have now condensed and summarised these questions into 28 research questions on communication and 30 questions on swallowing.

In this second survey, we want your vote on which questions are most important to you.

Who can take the survey?
• A person with lived experience of being an adult in ICU and having a communication and/or swallowing difficulty during or after being in ICU.
• A family member, friend or support person of a person with lived experience.
• Health care professionals with experience of supporting people with communication and/or swallowing difficulty (during or after care in the adult ICU).

How do I participate?
• Read the longlist of questions.
• Select up to 10 questions that you feel are the most urgent or important. You can pick 10 questions about communication and 10 questions about swallowing
• Our survey is currently available in 7 different languages (English, Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian). More will be released soon (Hindi, Japanese and Arabic).
