About the role
Join our dedicated Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team at Townsville University Hospital, providing specialised care to critically unwell infants, children, and adolescents. As a PICU RN, you’ll manage advanced medical equipment, administer critical medications, assist with complex procedures, and deliver compassionate, family centred care in collaboration with paediatric intensivists and multidisciplinary teams. This is a unique opportunity to develop expertise in paediatric emergency responses while making a real difference for families across North Queensland.
About the department
Our five bed PICU is the only regional tertiary referral unit in North Queensland, supported by the Paediatric Retrieval Service. We provide care across a wide range of paediatric specialties — from medicine and surgery to neurology, cardiology, and orthopaedics — with access to advanced therapies including renal replacement, nitric oxide, and high frequency ventilation. TUH’s PICU plays a vital role in delivering “care closer to home” for children from Cairns, Mackay, Mt Isa, the Whitsundays, Torres Strait, and beyond.
