Instructor ALS Program Overview
The Australian College of Critical Care Nurses Ltd (ACCCN)
NATIONAL INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION: 2 DAY PROGRAM
ACCCN offers this two-day Instructor Program for healthcare professionals (nursing, medical and defence) who teach Advanced Life Support (ALS) and have existing current Adult or Paediatric ALS certification. The focus is to develop skills and understanding around resuscitation education. Time is spent developing and practising instructor skills, including teaching simulations and ALS assessments. Participants always comment what a great networking opportunity this program is, particularly to share challenges and solutions around ALS/BLS delivery.
This course also includes an ALS team leader recertification in either adults or paediatrics, based on the current ANZCOR guidelines. Program content includes:
- Content delivery
- Simulation scenario development and implementation
- Debriefing as a learning tool
- Conducting assessments
- Providing feedback
- Opportunity for resuscitation educators to network with their peers
- ALS recertification
Each participant is provided with an Instructor reference manual (including self-directed exercises and practical tips) and an e-copy of our Adult or Paediatric ALS manual upon paid registration.
Nursing staff may claim up to 16 CPD hours (based on 12 hours program contact and four hours self-directed learning).
Medical staff may be accredited a different allocation of hours based on the accreditation with their medical college CPD home.
Successful participants will be placed on the ACCCN National ALS Database.
Pre course requirements:
Instructor certification candidates must have a current ALS or PALS certification (completed within the last 12 months) in order to complete the Instructor Course (and gain recertification in their ALS or PALS qualification). Any registrant who attends without a current ALS or PALS certification will not be eligible to complete the Instructor Course and will not be issued a refund. For those who have a recently expired ALS or PALS certificate (completed with the last 12-18 months) please contact the ACCCN to discuss any leniency in this rule based on special circumstances, prior to registering for this course
NATIONAL INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION: 1 DAY PROGRAM
This program is suitable for healthcare professionals who teach Advanced Life Support and have existing Instructor and ALS certification. This course provide an update to resuscitation education practices. . This course also includes an ALS team leader recertification in either adults or paediatrics, based on the current ANZCOR guidelines. Download here

Instructor Recertification Course candidates must have a current ALS Instructor Certification (completed within the last 24 month) as well as a current Adult or Paediatric ALS Certification (completed within the last 12 months in order to complete the ALS Instructor Recertification Course. Any registrant who attends a course without a current ALS Instructor Certification and a current Adult or Paediatric ALS Certification will not be eligible to complete the Instructor Recertification Course and will not be issued a refund. For those who have a recently expired ALS Instructor Certification or Adult/Paediatric Certification please contact the ACCCN (admin@acccn.com.au) to discuss any leniency in this rule based on special circumstances, prior to registering for this course.
RECERTIFICATION SCHEDULE:
The ACCCN recommends the following recertification schedule for ALS Instructors:
- Biennial recertification of the ACCCN ALS Instructor Course (every two years);
- Annual recertification of either Adult or Paediatric ALS courses in the alternate years;
- Ongoing review and updating of ALS practice in accordance with ANZCOR guidelines.
