ALS Course Overview

ACCCN National Advanced Life Support Education

ACCCN offers a comprehensive range of Instructor, Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation programs. They are suitable for healthcare professionals (nursing, medical, defence force) to attend, and are specifically aimed at nurses and medical staff working in a critical care environment, or with critically ill patients.

The course assumes a level of familiarity with ALS practices and builds on these to train and assess the candidate at the level of an effective ALS team leader. The teaching and assessment processes are consistent with recommendations from the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR), Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).

For Nurses, all ACCCN ALS courses can attract CPD hours.

For Medical officers, all ACCCN ALS courses are endorsed for CPD hours with the following medical colleges.

• Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine (ACRRM)
• Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM)
• Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA)
• College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM)
• The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
• The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)

ACCCN recommends annual re-certification for their Adult and Paediatric ALS programs. Bi-annual recertification is recommended for the Instructor program.

Participation in the Adult or Paediatric ALS resuscitation programs or the Resuscitation Instructor program includes access to an interactive PDF program manual and additional learning materials.
