Nutrition for Critically Ill Adults Priority Setting Partnership – nurse collaborator needed

What is a JLA PSP:
The JLA is a non-profit UK based initiative, established in 2004. It brings patients, carers and clinicians together in PSPs. These PSPs identify and prioritise the evidence uncertainties, or ‘unanswered questions’, that they agree are the most important for research in their topic area. The aim of a JLA PSP is to help ensure that those who fund health research are aware of what really matters to patients, carers and clinicians.

Why are we doing this:
This PSP was developed in response to the recognised importance of nutrition care both within critical illness in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and also the post-ICU recovery period. There is increasing appreciation that nutrition provision during hospitalisation can be poor and does not always meet the needs and preference of patients and families.

The aim of the Nutrition for Critically Ill Adults PSP is to identify the unanswered questions about nutrition care during and while recovering from critical illness from patient, carer and clinical perspectives within the Australian setting. Once the unanswered questions are identified, patients, carers and clinicians will agree on the most important research questions to address.

What is the scope:
The scope is defined as all research uncertainties related to nutrition care for adult patients admitted to intensive care and while recovering from critical illness in Australia. This includes, but is not limited to:
Enteral, parenteral, and oral nutrition in adult patients who are critically ill in hospital
Nutrition assessment, prescription, delivery, and monitoring
Nutrition care across all stages of the adult critical illness patient journey, including immediate ICU admission, ongoing critical illness, transition to acute ward care, and post ICU recovery

What am I required to do?
Participation as a Steering Committee member will involve attending a 1 hour meeting monthly around 5 pm (due to time differences in the UK) for the next 6-9 months, and participation at longer (90 mins-120 mins) meetings at certain points in the process. Of course, you can send an apology, we understand clinical commitments but we really need those who join our Steering Committee to try to attend the meetings. You will also be required to share the survey once developed out to your networks and there will be times when we will have to review the data that has been returned as a group.

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking nurses who have experience of providing nutrition care during and/or while caring for patients recovering from critical illness within the Australian intensive care setting (including but not limited to nutrition provision, assessment, monitoring and processes related to nutrition).

How do I express interest?
Please email nutrient@monash.edu with 100 words or less of your experience in caring for critically ill patients and involvement in nutrition care, and why this project is of interest to you by 10th July.
